Data Analyst, Ottawa

Summary

Crestview Strategy is a growing digital-first public affairs agency looking for an experienced Data Analyst to help us analyze growth hacking experiments. You will need to combine data from disparate sources into custom-formatted reports and dashboards for our clients’ mobilization campaigns, while also supporting consultants with project reporting and analysis. We need someone who can analyze our client mandates and recommend specific types of data that can be used to improve insight collection and reporting. To do well in this role you need a fine eye for detail, experience as a data analyst, and deep understanding of popular data analysis tools and databases.

You will be part of a small but growing team of campaign strategists, analysts, and creatives that have an unending thirst to mobilize people around public policy issues.

Responsibilities

  • Use statistical methods to analyze data and generate useful campaign reports from primary or secondary data sources and maintain databases/data systems

  • Work with project leads to create a prioritized list of reporting needs for each client

  • Use data to create models that depict trends in public opinion among target audiences and with the general population as a whole.

  • Identify, analyze, and interpret trends or patterns in complex data sets

  • Managing master data, including creation, updates, and deletion.

  • Managing users and user roles.

  • Processing confidential data and information according to guidelines.

  • Helping develop and generate reports from single or multiple systems

  • Managing and designing the reporting environment, including data sources, security, and metadata.

  • Supporting initiatives for data integrity and normalization.

  • Assessing tests and implementing new or upgraded software and assisting with strategic decisions on new systems.

  • Training end users on new reports and dashboards.

  • Providing technical expertise on data storage structures, data mining, and data cleansing.

  • Work with management to prioritize business and information needs

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Mathematics, Computer Engineering or Computer Science, Information Management, or Statistics

  • 2+ years’ Data mining experience

  • 2+ years in a data analyst role or in a related field

  • Ability to collaborate effectively and work as part of a team

  • Strong attention to detail

  • Ability to analyze existing tools and databases and provide software solution recommendations.

  • Ability to translate business requirements into non-technical, lay terms.

  • Adept at queries, report writing and presenting findings

  • Demonstrated experience in handling large data sets and relational databases.

  • Understanding of addressing and metadata standards.

  • High-level written and verbal communication skills.

  • Technical expertise regarding data models, database design development, data mining and segmentation techniques

  • Strong knowledge of and experience with reporting packages (Business Objects etc), databases (SQL etc), programming (XML, Javascript, or ETL frameworks)

  • Knowledge of statistics and experience using statistical packages for analyzing datasets (Excel, SPSS, SAS etc)

  • Strong analytical skills with the ability to collect, organize, analyze, and disseminate significant amounts of information with attention to detail and accuracy
